The OPEN Concept To Fitness

As I get older, I find that I like acronyms. They help me remember things and the other day I came up with my own acronym (yes really...I have a lot of time on my hands) Hopefully this works out and it makes sense to you so here it goes. When it comes to fitness and achieving your goals you must be OPEN....ok, ready?
O=Organize. This means you are going to set a goal, write it out and then decide what you need to achieve your goal. Perhaps you decided to walk everyday after work and start eating more salads for dinner at night. Then organize what you will need to make those steps successful. Maybe you need to get new shoes or a comfortable outfit for walking. Maybe you need to set some time aside on Sunday to write out a shopping list to include more veggies for your salads. Whatever it is, get the things together that you will need ahead of time in order to begin the steps needed to achieve your goal.
P=Prioritize. Make fitness and eating healthy a priority. If you plan to walk every evening, then make that the priority for your evening hours. Put it in your calendar as an appointment and don’t even think about cancelling. Need to log your food? Then set an appointment in your calendar so that when the time comes up, you drop what you are doing and log your food!
E= Enjoy. When you are first starting out, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need to join the latest boot camp or whatever else is trending at the time. Then, a month later you find that boot camp is kinda harder than you thought and now your sore and really...you’re not even enjoying it that much. The truth is, movement is exercise...ALL movement. You don’t have to be in a gym to “exercise”. You can go for a walk, you can play catch with the kids, you can garden in your back yard, or even go bowling! Whatever activity you decide on, just make sure it’s enjoyable. If you do something you don’t like then you won’t stick with it and in the “losing weight” field, consistency is the key
N=Now. Do it now! Start today! We always say we will start tomorrow. Well guess what? Tomorrow never comes. Start right here....start right now. You can start by just doing some stretches for 10 minutes. It’s. That. Easy
